You may think that you are good team player - but are you really?

Team Working

The definition of 'team' in The Concise Oxford Dictionary is (among others): set of persons together and 'teamworking' is combined effort, organized co-operation. But is this enough? For more effective teamwork we suggest that you then need to add into the mix 'teamspirit': willing to act for group rather than individual benefit.

Of course this does not mean that the individual is no longer important but in order for teamwork to achieve a common goal one must sometimes subordinate personal aspirations and work in a co-ordinated effort with the other team members.

In fact your longer term career aspirations will benefit from being recognised as a 'team player'.

The secret of successful teams is a complex and difficult issue to tackle head on. There are numerous variables to consider and only through a systematic approach to team building, coupled with a firm understanding of team member's strengths, weaknesses and knowledge of people's business relationships can such a goal be achieved. Successful team building is difficult and only a systematic approach can yield long term benefits.
